Trading in the laser pointer, lecture hall and boardroom presentations for a life on the high seas – Tall Ship Ocean Adventure begins.

We’re giving up the morning commute for a Tall Ship Ocean Adventure. The monthly board room priority meetings, the hours preparing lectures about marine ecology, genetics or community studies, writing exams and commuting to work – all traded for a life afloat, filled tropical islands and sailing towards the endless horizon. Soon, the daily commute will start with a morning swim and a snorkel to identify the local reef fish, or perhaps with gale force winds during long crossings, or dealing with finding “parking” in mirror calm anchorages. Whatever the case may be, a significant part will include beaches, perfect white sand beaches offering a gateway from the warm tropical water into the terrestrial life of jungles, rainforest, wildlife and the cultures of distant shores. Life on the high seas again – for the foreseeable future. Moken Sea-Gypsies

This is type of lifestyle is not completely new to us. After finishing grad school, what was supposed to be a 1-year break from academia, turned into 2.5-year adventure crossing the Pacific Ocean. The experiences shared, the friends made, the brethren found (J and E) all contributed to a truly romantic experience of life afloat. While dreaming of all the grander this will entail, we may be glossing over the challenges and many unforeseeable trials that have yet to be overcome. Only this time, we know what were getting into, having rebuilt two vessels now stem to stern, wind indicator to keel bolts. Only, this time around, there is going to be not just one toilet, but six, not one mast but 4! And 8 sails, 14 berths, 3 engines and air-conditioning! What could go wrong? There will be the problems and challenges during our latest venture out to sea, but they’ll be a welcome change to the grind of life ashore.

Tall Ship Ocean Adventure

We’re excited to launch a new journey and to share every mile under the keel, every challenge and every experiential rollercoaster with you. Let the “to do” lists begin: 1) pack up life, especially the ice-climbing, snowboarding and cold weather gear that enables life in Canada, 2) purge and sell most material things; cars, trucks, couches. Donate majority of cold weather clothes. Then, slip the dock lines from shore and begin an all new grand adventure.
